Major Information Processing Company Installs Newton Security Inc.'s T-DAR® Technology To Protect Against The Loss Of Data Due To Tailgating/Piggybacking

Seattle, WA — Thursday, June 30, 2005 — Newton Security Inc, the global leader in the supply of machine vision single person detection systems today announced the installation of Newton's patent pending T-DAR® technology for single person detection to protect against tailgating/piggybacking at the new West Coast data center of a major information processor. The Newton T-DAR systems are installed on the access doors to the building and on each individual server cage to prevent the potential loss of data due to the recurring security shortcoming known as Tailgating and Piggybacking. This proactive security move detects and prevents the two most common forms of illegal access in restricted areas: tailgating and piggybacking.

Tailgating is the act of an unauthorized person slipping through a door after an authorized person. Piggybacking occurs when an authorized person holds a protected door open for another person that he or she perceives to have authorized access. Both acts completely remove and circumvent the access control system's ability to reject a revoked or counterfeit pass or badge. In either case, the access control system — whether equipped with advanced biometrics or just a simple card system — has no knowledge of entry by the unauthorized person unless the tailgating and/or piggybacking is detected.

“With the current concern for the loss of data constantly in today's news, companies charged with protecting data have come to realize that physical security of the data systems is equally weighted with the need for network security” stated John W. Bramblet, CEO and President of Newton Security. “Newton's T-DAR system addresses the existing gap in many physical security systems, that of the lack of control of tailgating or piggybacking.” he added.

T-DAR's sophisticated 3-dimensional stereo machine vision technology constantly monitors and accurately counts the number of persons attempting to enter a given area and reports violators, including video evidence, to security. Newton's T-DAR technology has been successfully deployed in numerous applications around the world to control and track access to restricted areas, including airports, government installations, data centers, unmanned immigration checkpoints and many other secure areas.

As installed in this particular application the T-DAR is primarily a detection system that reports violations to the on site 24 hour security. In other applications the T-DAR system is combined with a second door that creates a "mantrap" device; essentially a double-door entry corridor where the first door must be secured before the employee can pass through the second door. In this format the T-DAR system prevents Tailgating/Piggyback as well as reporting attempted violations.
